Preperation of Beer festival

Preparing for a beer festival? Check out our do’s and don’ts list!

Beer festivals are not too famous (or common) in India yet but it is getting there! Though if you are on a holiday or going around brew houses, you are bound to come across at least one beer festival. And just like any festival, there are a few do’s and don’ts you should abide by before joining in on the fun!

Do’s

Sleep: Get enough rest before the festival or you are going to feel groggy and weak and may just end up collapsing on the pavement. And after a few brewed beers, nobody will be sober enough to lift your drunken bum. And speaking of sober…..

Have at least one sober person in the group: There is going to be a ton of people at a beer festival. And where there is crowd, there is confusion, traffic, and stumbling.  This is made ten times worse if the crowd is drunk on brewed beer. You will need to have at least one sober bro, the champion, the hero who takes one for the team! The sober bro is your designated driver and human GPS for the night. And if you don’t have one then scout out public transport options and always stay together with your group

Dress appropriately: most beer festivals happen outdoors, in the heat (or cold depending on where it is). So it is best not to go to a festival dressed like a model on the ramp. Wear flats, as you will be walking around a lot, and try to wear cotton clothes in case it’s warm, or a jumper if it’s cold. Also, there will be a bit of spilling involved, so don’t wear expensive clothes unless you want it dyed like brewed beer

Don’ts

Get there late: There is no such thing as fashionably late for a beer festival. People will be too drunk to even notice if you are wearing clothes, let alone what kind of clothes. Beer festivals will get very crowded, which means traffic will be chaotic and parking space a myth. Also early birds get the best beer! (and tables, we get tables)

Stand around the pouring tables: Get in there, get your beer, and get out. Beer festivals are crowded and everyone wants their keg quick. So crowding around the brewery’s tables will just make wading through them an utter nightmare

Go on an empty stomach: Be sure to find out if they are serving food at the festival. If not, then get some grub before heading out.  A full belly means you won’t get drunk too quickly, this way can enjoy even more brewed beer!

Beer festivals can be a ton of fun if you are prepared! And if there isn’t any beer festivals happening anytime soon, then head over to Murphy’s Brewhouse! We have the best brewed beer in Bangalore. And where it is a festival all year round

How they cure their Hangover

How they Cure their Hangover?

“A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures!”

So, you had a fun night yesterday but you forget the bad headache that follows after the fun night. Hangovers are the worst fear of any drink admirers. That weird nauseating feeling and headache makes you forget about the fun you had last night. You cannot think straight. That is the point you promise, you’ll never ever touch alcohol in your life again. But we all have been through those false promises.

Therefore, better we give you the list of hangover cures. Warning! Some of the cures are strange but worth checking out if you’re desperate.

  • Namibia – In this south western African country, people drink buffalo milk to cure their hangover. Now, you might wonder what is so weird about that but it’s probably because they don’t use actual buffalo milk. Instead, they use clotted cream made from cow’s milk, dark rum, spiced rum and cream liqueur. How can you expect to cure your hangover from this drink, which probably gave you the hangover in the first place? Weird!
  • Canada – In order to cure their beer hangover, Canadians prepare a delicious food. They mix a bowl of thick-cut French fries with chunks of Canadian cheese curd and overwhelmed with a flavorful gravy of fresh pepper corns. Thinking about this dish already helps me to calm my aching head
  • Haiti – People use some little old fashioned Voodoo in Haiti to cure their hangover. Next morning when people here wake up with a severe hangover, they stick 13 black headed pins in the cork of the bottle which gave them the hangover. So, more than a cure for a hangover, this is like torturing the bottle of alcohol for giving you the headache. Sweet Revenge indeed!
  • Ireland – The Irish legend says that if you get buried up to your neck in a wet sand river sand, your hangover gets cured. Now knowing the quirkiness of Irish people, this can be a prank from their ancestor to punish their kids for drinking alcohol. But I wonder who will have the courage to go and bury themselves in wet sand when they can barely lift their head up. “Legend gone bad” for sure
  • Vietnam – People of this country think that if you grind rhino’s horn into hot water and drink it, it will cure a hangover. Now, that seems totally illegal. I don’t know about hangover, but this will increase rhino poaching for sure. So, let’s save Rhinos and drink responsibly
  • Turkey – The Turkish, Mexicans and Romanians also think drinking Tripe Soup will cure their hangover. Made up of garlic, onion and cream, this soup is supposed to be blessing on a hangover day. But thinking about this drink on my hangover days doesn’t make my heavy head go light
weird and expensive beer

Here are some of these really cool quotes about your favourite drink from famous folks:

  • “I have respect for beer”- Russell Crowe aka The Gladiator. We can almost picture the gladiator walking into a brewery, sticking two fingers up and asking for 5 drinks (Like roman V get it guys! Guys?)

  • “I’ve only been in love with a beer bottle and a mirror”- Sid Vicious, former Sex Pistols band member and a pioneer of punk rock. Also a bit nuts but hey, at least he loves his beer! (and his face, though we think that has something to do with the beer)
  • “Beer, it’s the best damn drink in the world”- Jack Nicholson, an actor known for this amazingly (often evil) roles and his blunt matter-of-fact one liners. This one liner in particular is pretty damn right!
  • “In a study, scientists report that drinking beer can be good for the liver. I’m sorry, did I say ‘scientists’? I meant Irish people.”- Tina Fey, female comedian and beer aficionado who can down a keg just as fast as she can spit out a quip. And some scientists are Irish so, this quote checks out in a way
  • “A man who lies about beer makes enemies”- Stephen King, novelist known for creating creepy stories involving homicidal clowns. Believe me, you wouldn’t want a man like him as your enemy
  • “Beer’s intellectual. What a shame so many idiots drink it.”- Ray Bradbury, fantasy and science fiction novelist best known for his novel ‘Fahrenheit 451’. If you’ve never heard of Bradbury then you’re probably one of the ‘idiots’ he was talking about. But that’s all right, we all are! but that doesn’t stop us from drinking
  • “It was as natural as eating and to me it’s necessary, and I would not have thought of eating a meal without drinking  beer”- Ernest Hemingway, an award winning author who loved his beer as much as he loved writing

Beer N Pizza Bash

Pizza and Beer – A Super Delicious Drinking Combo!

The most beautiful relationship in the world is between an ice-cold beer and a cheesy pizza!

Pizza and cold beer are meant to be together, for life. The tanginess of tomato, the richness of cheese and thin crust of a pizza perfectly complements the bold and bitter tasting beer. Whether you are having a hectic day, a bad day, a happy day, or an ‘I don’t know what I’m doing with my life’ day, you can just order a pizza and relax. Cold beer and pizza are spiritual. The beauty of this combo is that you don’t need to check your calendar, gather your family and friends and make a big occasion out of it. All you need to do is hit a pub and order pizza and beer. But the problem here is that you get lots of options in menus for both of this, which can confuse you. So, to clear your doubt, here are the best combos of pizza with beers which you can order the next time you visit a Brewhouse.

Spicy Beer with Spicy Pizza – If you want to spice up your life, order a spicy pizza with a spicy beer. Three pepper spicy pizza, spicy sausage and mushroom pizzas go well with spicy flavored beers. If you love traditional Indian spicy food, then this combination is surely a treat for you.

Lightly acidic beer with acidic flavored pizza– When the acidic flavored pizza like simple tomato topped pizza is combined with lightly acidic beers like Pilsner, you can never go wrong. The acidic flavor of this beer will mingle with the tangy acidic tomatoes, making the whole combo seem less acidic. The bitterness in the beer is likely to keep the acidity in these pizzas on track and give you a mesmerizing taste.

Cheesy Pizza with a Strong Beer – Imagine a thick and puffy, extra cheesy pizza with an ice cold strong beer – a divine combination. As delicious as it sounds, cheese pizza goes really well with strong beers. The rich protein in a cheese tends to balance the bitterness of strong beer, giving you a delicious taste.

For mouth-watering brewed beers and pizza, don’t forget to visit Murphy’s Brewhouse. Not boasting, but we definitely have the best brewed beer and the best tasting pizzas in Bangalore. And with the Pizza and Beer bash fest going on till 14th June, you are in for a great time. Cheers!

What's in your beer

What’s in Your Beer?

Did you know in the middle ages, people used to drink beer instead of water as it was safer? Well, what was in their beloved brewed beer, that it was considered safer than water at that time? No matter what kind of beer they are brewing, water, hops, yeast and starch source are the key ingredient in beer. Like combined power of earth, water, fire, wind and heart used to incarnate the superhero- Captain Planet, the combination of water, hops, yeast and starch source gives birth to Beer – Captain of good times. What are the roles that these basic ingredients play?

  • Water – This reminds us of a song – Drink Beer, Save Water. Beer is mostly composed of water. But as the quality of water differs from place to place, the taste of beer also differs in different places. Based on the minerals found in the water of the city, quality of beer can be determined. For instance, Ireland has mostly hard water, which is perfect for Stouts and Guinness. Merci to water of Ireland for incredible gift to human civilization. And for best stouts in Bangalore, you know where to go? Murphy’s Brewhouse.
  • Hops – This is the major source of flavor in beer. They are used in beer for stability and ooze out the bitter-tangy flavor. In order to balance the sweetness of the malt, hops are used. So, whether it is lagers or ales, hops are used to give you that unique taste. Without hops, we would have had to settle down for a brewed beer that tastes like wine. Scary thought!
  • Yeast – Yeast is a very important ingredient in the brewing process. It helps beer in the fermentation process. Top fermenting yeast is used in ales, stouts and wheat beer. Whereas, bottom fermented beer is used in lagers. Whether it is bread or for beer, humans can never repay for that huge contribution by yeast.
  • Starch source – It provides fermentable material to the beer. It is a key ingredient to determine the strength and the flavor. The most common starch source used in a beer is malted grains. And these grains are malted based on the requirement. For instance, darker malts are used for darker beers. Long Live dark beers!
